After Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey revealed on Thursday that they were expecting their first child together, Selena Gomez has spoken out.
Selena posted a picture on her Instagram Story featuring her current boyfriend, 36-year-old Benny Blanco, even though she didn’t explicitly address the pregnancy news.
Selena, 31, and Justin, 30, had an eight-year relationship that ended in a finite split in May 2018.
After some months, Justin and 27-year-old Hailey had another affair, which ended in September of that same year.
The monochrome image featured Selena and Benny, a music producer who has worked with Justin, cuddled together in blankets and holding hands.
The former cast member of Disney Channel wore a big O-shaped ring on her left ring finger.
Selena shared the picture on Instagram barely two hours after Hailey revealed her pregnancy.
The model revealed her pregnancy in a stunning video that included her showing off her tummy while wearing a flowing veil and a couture Saint Laurent lace wedding dress designed by Anthony Vaccarello for a surprise vow renewal in Hawaii.
During their outdoor ceremony, the singer and the Baby hitmaker—who previously caused controversy with a tearful selfie—shared a tender kiss while celebrating their news. Hailey was wearing a new diamond ring.
Wearing jeans, a bomber jacket, and a backwards cap, Justin was spotted recording his fiancée as she held her baby belly. The video was put to a new song by the Grammy winner.
Hailey is reportedly more than six months pregnant, according to TMZ.
Even though Hailey and Justin have known each other since 2009, their friendship didn’t develop into a love one until 2016.
During their well-known Anguilla vacation in 2016, Justin shared a picture of the two of them kissing online.
At the time, Justin and Selena had an intermittent, highly publicized romance that lasted from 2011 to 2014 before they briefly got back together in 2017. In 2018, they permanently parted ways.
Rumors about a purported “feud” between Selena and Hailey have been spread on the internet for years, setting them against one another.
When they amiably posed for pictures together at an event in Los Angeles in October 2022, they effectively put an end to the rumors. In one picture, they even shared an embrace.
However, the feud rumors resurfaced in February 2023 after Hailey posted a TikTok short that some people thought was her making fun of Selena.
‘I’m not saying she deserves it, but God’s timing is always right,’ the ladies lip-synced to, joined by close friends Kendall Jenner and Justine Skye.
The video was posted at the same time that Selena was making headlines for all the wrong reasons due to some embarrassing paparazzi pictures that were taken of her in Mexico. Many people assumed Hailey was making fun of Selena because of the strange timing of her post.
Hailey stated in a comment that the video had nothing to do with her husband’s former partner, and the TikTok was quickly removed.
We were simply enjoying a girls’ night and made a weird TikTok sound for fun, she wrote. “I never comment on this type of thing.” It’s not meant to offend anyone.
At the time, Selena also participated and said, “It’s OK.” These things don’t depress me. Treat everyone with kindness.
But the drama wasn’t over yet. Days later, fans were certain Hailey’s friend Kylie Jenner was making fun of Selena.
In a post, the actress acknowledged on TikTok that she had “accidentally laminated” her eyebrows excessively.
Kylie shared a picture of herself doing a similar posture on Instagram with the message, “This was an accident?”
Soon after, the reality star seemed to fan the flames even more by posting a screen grab from a recent FaceTime conversation in which both of them focused intently on their eyebrows.
In a statement, Kylie refuted claims that she was disparaging Selena, saying, “This is reaching.”
I didn’t see Selena’s eyebrow posts, and I never meant any disrespect for her. It seems like you guys are inventing something. This is absurd.
“I concur, @kyliejenner,” Selena said. It’s all superfluous. Kylie is someone I like.
Nevertheless, the hashtag #TeamSelena began to trend online, and the ensuing controversy led to reports of Hailey losing nearly a million social media followers, and Kylie losing half a million.
However, the claims of online harassment directed at the two caused the star of Only Murders in the Building to get 10 million more followers.
Later that month, Selena sparked controversy once more by leaving comments on videos on TikTok featuring Hailey and her ex-boyfriend Justin.
“So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game,” Selena wrote on a TikTok including old footage of Hailey that appeared to show her tongue sticking out in disdain when a Taylor Swift song played.
In addition, she left a “I love you” remark on a fan’s video, expressing her solidarity with Swift in the face of all the bullying she had endured from “mean girls and nepo babies.”
She then said she was taking a sabbatical from TikTok during a live stream. After deactivating her account, she restored it a few hours later.
In March 2023, Selena asked her fans to stop the “hate and bullying” and disclosed that Hailey had truly “reached out to her” after receiving “death threats.”
At the time, Hailey Bieber said on her Instagram Story, “Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity.”
“I don’t stand for this.” Bullying or hate should not have to be experienced by anyone. I truly want this to end and have always pushed for kindness.
